Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, and Mike Selinker's journal beholds a wide range of beautiful things, from the most beautiful arcade game to the most beautiful chase scene and even the most beautiful New Year's resolution.

Help Give Back!

Add to Memories Tell a Friend

I need to ask all of my lovely members for their help and support with something very important. While you've always been there to encourage me in my icon making and when I've posted more personal things about myself, I now turn to you for a different reason.

This year I will be participating in Blogathon 2009, a worldwide fundraising activity in which bloggers agree to stay up for 24 hours on July 25th-26th, blogging every 30 minutes, in order to raise money for a charity of their choice. Family, friends, and strangers sponsor bloggers either by donating a flat sum for the 24 hour period, or by donating a certain amount per hour (i.e. $1.00 for every hour the blogger stays awake) This year I have chosen to participate, and will be raising money for Make-A-Wish Canada, an organization whose aims and accomplishments I have always admired. This charity grants the wishes of children with life-threatening illnesses. The Make-A-Wish program is a non-profit organization, so you can donate knowing that your money can and will make a difference for the charity, and will be aimed in the right direction. The fact that the Make-A-Wish charity operates in 30 countries around the world also demonstrates the respectability and reliability of the organization itself.

My goal this year is a rather modest one: I would like to raise at least $50.00 for this charity. With nearly 3,500 members I don't think this goal is unreachable, as if only 50 people donated $1.00 each, this would make a world of difference. Please be assured that all the money you donate will be going directly to the Make-A-Wish charity, and neither myself nor the people at Blogathon will profit from your generosity and kindness.

As an extra incentive, I'm even willing to make icons and fulfill requests in exchange for your donations for those that want them. The extra time and work would be worth it for a good cause :)

* I believe you will have to register in order to sponsor me. This should be little more than a quick 1 minute process.

Thank you! Any donation you are able to make will make such a difference to these children. Also, don't forget to drop by my personal blog on the 25th and 26th to leave an encouraging word and make sure I'm still awake ;) I plan on posting some fun things to pass the time and keep everyone entertained!

You might not know that most of the Support on LJ is provided by volunteers who are users just like you. And if you volunteered, you could be just like them. Check out this community to see how they keep LJ running and how you can help.

Josh Neufeld has a lot going on. His cartoons played a starring role in Earth 2100, the ABC special about climate change, and his new graphic novel, A.D.: New Orleans After the Deluge, comes out in August. And he still finds time to update his LJ!
